Who is a swordsman in Japanese culture? It’s a master, well-trained, stout of heart and endowed with excellence and strength. We can see swordsmen in various manga and anime, so I’d like to represent the best warriors in the titles I’ve read in terms of their mastery but not strength.
The manga series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon was written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi. It was published in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine between 1992 and 1997. It was also adapted into an anime series titled Sailor Moon, which is a classic example of the shojo genre. Interestingly, Sailor Moon is usually considered to popularize the concept of the team of magical girls and to “revive” the maho shojo genre. However, Sailor Moon is quite different from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. So, I think it will be interesting to review the manga since it’s the base for the anime.
This article is intended for the readers who have already read the titles I’m going to review, so I won’t get into details concerning the plots and some specific minuses. I’d like to share my general impression and feelings. I’ll give you my own opinion and, of course, you can agree or disagree with me. However, I didn’t pick these titles at random. I spent a lot of time reading them, that’s why my disappointment was so strong.
To start with, I should say that I have mixed feelings about the manga Toriko. It seems that the author, Shimabukuro Mitsutoshi, just wanted to make a profit out of the series and shoot to fame, rather than to make something new and unique.

Claymore is a great manga series written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi that was released between 2001 and 2014. The manga will capture the imagination of those who like historic works as well as stories about demons and great conspiracy.
Talking about manga in general, you’ve probably noticed the following tendency: now many comics are getting longer, going on for several years and have a silly ending. By contrast, Psyren is a finished piece and the author doesn’t ruin the ending. That’s already one of the pros.
